Goodbye, MJ.

MJ was in Manila for a 2-day concert in 1996, and as much as I wanted to see this legend strut his stuff live, I was 11, and obviously, not capable in any way, to buy his concert ticket.

Fast forward to present, though I freak out seeing his unending nose jobs & face mutilations, I still regard him as one of the BEST performers & music icons of this time. MJ, along with Madonna, Air Supply & Bon Jovi, remained to be my "hope-to-watch-them-live" artists. And after hearing of his comeback concert series in London, I was silently hoping he will grace Manila with his presence once more, and this time, I'll make sure to be on the front row.
Sadly, he will never grace London, nor Manila anymore. The King of Pop, failed to moonwalk again. =,(

MJ, you're a LEGEND. Rest in peace & God's loving embrace, YOU ARE NOT ALONE.

Negativity 101

I was reading Maegan's blogs about her husband, Pep (BTW, they are SO perfect together!), and for the 1st time, in how MANY months, I shamelessly admitted to my face that...

1. I'm tough, BUT it's sad being alone (friends do help, but you guys know what I mean!)
2. I miss the insane feeling, of being in LOVE (when was the last time?)
3. I still don't know what I want to do with it...

Argh. Poor me. =(

Casual Friday Outfit*

Remember my El Cheapo haul last week? Just wanted to share the look, and see if I didn't turn out "cheapo" after all =)

Random Thought*

The day I said NO, without a trace of guilt and "what IFs", was the BEST DAY of my life.

I may have lost the chance to see what's on the other side, but I was able to keep my self-respect & pride. And that's something I'd rather keep than pawn, for anything worldly.

And lastly, a random thought I got from my good friend, Vic:

Make peace with your past so it won't screw up the present.

Totally makes sense. Let loose, let go, and live forward. I'd rather live my life happily, there's so much more to see & experience, and I'm definitely living it....the crazy neurochiq way =)

EL Cheapo Haul

No, I was never a brand snob. I wear/use anything I find fashinable & comfy regardless of its brand and price. My mom used to tease me, that between me and my brother (who is 100% brand conscious!), I'm definitely the cheap type, and I never argued.

I do recognize the quality and durability of branded items, and yes, I buy branded too. Let's just say I enjoy both worlds =)

Here are my El Cheapo haul over the weekend:
From left:
Metallic red pointed shoes @ 380.00
Oversized Scarf Blouse @ 280.00
Slim belts with gold buckles (in black & white) @ 50.00 each
Kimono cotton dress (in tropical PI, summer dress is a staple for me!) @ 250.00
Skinny Jeans in light & dark hues @ 450.00 each
Vintage necklace @ 130.00
Aren't they adobrable?
PS: I won't wear them on marathon days =)

Can't help but wash the dress that night & wear it the next day, super comfy!

Managing Miscommunication Workshop*

I attended the Managing Miscommunication Workshop with Eric Villarama a few weeks ago, and found it really interesting and helpful, both for corporate and personal settings. I don't want to keep the learnings to myself, and so I thought of seeking my SD Karen's help, to cascade it among the College Group members of SJA parish. I asked Eric for the presentation materials and became the workshop facilitator this time.

If you must know, I like teaching, and I'm confident that I have the gift for it. And if I can give a 12k worth of workshop to church kids for free, why effin' not? Based from the feedback & the glitters I saw in their eyes, I guess I did pretty well =)
My facilitator, Eric, and wife Donita @ Dusit Thani
Yep, I'm the fat zebra =p
One thing I made sure, NO DULL MOMENTS!

A Better Way to Support My Cause: Coral Watch 2009

Anilao, Batangas

I love nature tripping in general, but I'm more of a "water person", yes, not only beach, because I equally love falls, hotsprings, rivers, lakes, pools, even batis! I just like how water feels on my skin, how different life underwater is. Unexplainable feeling. Happiness. [can't wait to reef walk in Bora!]

Makes me think maybe I was a fish before this life, a noisy, restless & vain one. Hah!

FYI, colors indicate the health of the corals

Striking a pose before going to work (darn, I gained a lot!)

Just Beautiful.

in action (forgive the haggardness =p)

I hope to join the divers next year!

If Only

It's a rainy Tuesday, and all the morning rush, jumping hormones at this time of the month, and an extremely low blood pressure is challenging my sanity. Good thing that I found some sense in an email I got from a guy friend, and decided I should share the thoughts =)

If only people have PATIENCE, TRUST and KIND WORDS, then the world can be PURE LOVE.

There is a Chinese saying which carries the meaning that "A speech will either prosper or ruin a nation." Many relationships break off because of wrong speech. When a couple is too close with each other,we always forget mutual respect and courtesy. We may say anything without considering if it would hurt the other party. A friend and her millionaire husband visited their construction site. A worker who wore a helmet saw her and shouted,"Hi, Emily! Remember me? We used to date in the secondary school." On the way home, her millionaire husband teased her, "Luckily you married me.Otherwise you will be the wife of a construction worker." She answered ,"You should appreciate that you married me. Otherwise, he will be the millionaire and not you." Frequently exchanging these remarks plants the seed for a bad relationship. It's like a broken egg - cannot be reversed.

TRUST is a very important factor for all relationships. When trust is broken, it is the end of the relationship. Lack of trust leads to suspicion, suspicion generates anger, anger causes enmity and enmity may result in separation.

A female telephone operator received a phone call one day. She answered, "Public Utilities Board." There was silence. She repeated, "PUB." There was still no answer. When she was going to cut off the line, she heard a lady's voice, "Oh, so this is PUB.Sorry, I got the number from my husband's pocket but I do not know whose number it is." Without mutual trust, just imagine what will happen to the couple if the telephone operator answered with just "hello" instead of "PUB".

A man came out of his home to admire his new truck. To his puzzlement, his three-year-old son was happily hammering dents into the shiny paint of the truck. The man ran to his son, knocked him away, hammered the little boy's hands into pulp as punishment. When the father calmed down, he rushed his son to the hospital. Although the doctor tried desperately to save the crushed bones, he finally had to amputate the fingers from both the boy's hands. When the boy woke up from the surgery & saw his bandaged stubs, he innocently said, " Daddy,I'm sorry about your truck." Then he asked, "but when are my fingers going to grow back?"

Think about this story the next time someone steps on your feet or you wish to take revenge. Think first before you lose your patience with someone you love. Trucks can be repaired. Broken bones & hurt feelings often can't. Too often we fail to recognize the difference between the person and the act. We forget that forgiveness is greater than revenge. People make mistakes. We are allowed to make mistakes. But the actions we take while in a rage can haunt us forever.

Thank God for the Long Weekend

The Neurochiq is back, fighting Monday sickness with a good cup of hazelnut coffee. =)
For working people, getting a 3-day vacay is something to simply be happy about. So I made sure that my long weekend was well spent. It gave me time to unwind, spend time with my loved ones, and discover the ART of DOING NOTHING.

What I did?

1. Quick getaway to a farm in Tagaytay to celebrate the birthday of my very close friend and gamma sister, Chai
2. Groom my dog, and play with him like a toddler
3. Shop
4. and the most important activity: DO NOTHING
My Gamma Sisters (nah, we don't do hazing!)
From top left: Me, Cath, Ren, Libay,
From bottom left: Yhel, Tethas+baby Sophie, Tara, Chai
Girls get silly sometimes =p
Antique chair @ Hacienda Cuevas
"The famous Gimmick shot"
Just finished grooming my love
Comfy @ home
Who said diaper bags are just for moms??
Champagne Bag from Baby Couture(XL). What a steal @ 50% OFF!
My first Aviator shades
This scent brings back HS memories (Thanks to YOU)
Loreal MMU Foundie in Nude Vanilla + Maybelline Volum Express Hypercurl Mascara
I still do things, while doing "NOTHING". Thanks to Devaki, I remembered my love for patches during my younger years. In fact, I still buy patches once in a while, even though they just sit in my cabinet for years. I used to do some stitching and patchworks back in HS, I guess it isn't too late to re-live the passion =)
Still @ work on this, still need to stitch some more patches.
Plain Turquoise Bag: Mom got this as a store giveaway
Patch: I got for only Php 9.75 back in 1997!

BEFORE: plain & boring

Do share some of your life's happenings during the 3-day break =) Live life, and all its Craziness!

Three Birds in One Stone =)

I feel blessed today. I may not be as adrenaline-filled as I used to be (my previous job was a nerve-wracking PR Consultant), but I think of my current situation more of a blessing & opportunity to do MORE. I need activities to relieve stress and pour out excess energy, and I don't like wasting time doing nothing (massage sessions exempted! =p).

And so, since my current job is fixed and work-life balance friendly, I decided to venture into a small scale business. For the love of fashion & beauty, UrbanPosh was born.

Now, mere three months later, I'm so excited, all the more proud, to sell something that supports one of the most important & consistent advocacy I have: Green Campaign.

Starting today, I'm introducing Venus & Mars All Organic Skin Treats in my online shop. Not only will these beautify women, it'll also preserve our precious Earth. So how did I hit three birds?

I didn't know I can mix them up so well!

Review: Ilog Maria Organic Products

I promised a review on this sooner, but I needed at least 2 weeks to test and re-test them before I give my verdict. Here’s my take on the following organic products I bought from Ilog Maria Bee Farm in Silang, Cavite, shared in my blogs and at Kikay Exchange.

Removes chemical build up from commercial shampoos, soothes dry and itchy scalp, and promotes hair growth.

No bubbles will form on the first use; this, accordingly, is a sign that the natural shampoo is reacting with all the grime and chemicals that are stuck in our hair and scalp. I dye my hair, thus, I needed to apply and rinse the shampoo three times before I finally saw some bubbles. I used two sliced Calamansi to condition my hair afterwards. (recommended in the package)

LIKES: I have a mild case of dermatitis, which makes my oil glands hyperactive, affecting my scalp. For the first time, after ages of searching for the perfect clarifying shampoo, I think I found the one! I’ve never felt my scalp so light, clean, and relieved. I loved the minty feel, makes me think of getting a hair spa. =)

· refreshing minty feel
· leaves hair and scalp seriously clean & itch-free
· removes chemical build up
· Very affordable @ Php 77.00 per 50 ml

DISLIKES: The only down side is that, despite using calamansi as a natural conditioner, softness of hair does not compare to the commercial conditioners I love. And they haven’t introduced an organic conditioner yet. =(

OVERALL VERDICT: 8 out of 10. Will use this 2 times a week.

Soothes dry, chapped and bleeding lips while keeping it moisturized.

First few use made my lips peel so much, assuming it’s a “renewing effect”, I just wiped off excess skin with damp tissue and reapply. True enough, after a few days, peeling was lessened, but did not completely solve it.
LIKES: Minty feel on your lips, good base for lipstick, and a safe feeling that while you accidentally consume some of your balm, you’re sure it’s organic.

DISLIKES: I don’t like how it tastes, not bad, but a bit weird. I’d rather go for an unflavored one.

OVERALL VERDICT: Better than commercial balms like Chapstick, Nivea and the likes, but not an outstanding one. I have a more homework to do. 6 out of 10.

Royal Jelly with fruits and flowers essence, is known to delay skin ageing and soothes dry, tired skin and keeps it elastic.

I tried too many moisturizers in the market, but haven’t found my match. From the super expensive to the downright cheap. My skin is so prone to acne, that it breaks out after a few application. So I’m left with no choice but skip the moisturizing part of the evening beauty ritual. Naturally, I’m hesitant to try an oil based moisturizer, but my acne soap made my skin so dry and itchy, that I decided to give the RJ face oil a try.
LIKES: EVERYTHING. I felt the effect the morning after the first application. My skin is smoother to touch and feels tighter, in a good way. All the dry, itchy spots on my face are gone, and no hint of breakouts! I could have cried in joy! =)

· Makes skin smooth, silky and tighter
· Removes the itchy, flaky spots brought about by anti-acne soap
· No breakouts at all! (oohlala!)
· Reasonably priced at Php 121.00 per 25 ml (a little goes a long way)

DISLIKES: Not actually a dislike, but a preference. I’m not big on flowery scents, which this oil has =p But no big a deal. A bit oily, but I learned to apply just the right amount, and everything is fine =)

OVERALL VERDICT: Simply FANTASTIC. Even my mom loved it too! 9.5 out of 10. Will use it from now on!

Bought some of my staples last week, and realized I've been using same products for quite some time. My hands are itching to try new ones in the market, but my skin is so prone to break out, I woudn't risk it.

"Don't fix it if it ain't broken", this time, sounds true. =)

Anna Sui Blush Cream turned into a locket =)

Anna Sui Lipstick in Dolly Girl and Blush Cream

Maybelline Clear Smooth Aqua Gel Foundation is Natural Beige + Maybelline Clear Smooth Pressed Powder in Light

(I've tried too many foundation and powders which claim to be oil preventing/oil-free, but this tandem beats them in large margin. My hyper active oil glands, are no match! Skin stays matte for long hours without the greasy, heavy feel. Been using this, since I can't remember anymore. =p)

Kojic Acid Soap from our own shop (Yes, I buy them too, business is business.)

My MIRACLE soap, believe you me, I wasted a fortune with my derma sessions, imported oral pills, especially formulated derma creams and ointments etc. But only this natural soap with Kojic Acid (a by product of Japanese Rice Wine), clearly WORKED for me. I seldom get pimples now, and if I do, it just dries so fast!

Natural Goat's Milk Bath Soap (again from our own shop)

Moisturize, moisturize, and moisturize some more! Rich lather and super soft skin up to the last bit!

To My One & Only Kuya

Photo taken during my brother's wedding in 2008

They say friends come & go, but SIBLINGS will always be SIBLINGS. No matter how far you live from each other, how long you haven't talked, or how different your personalities/beliefs/religions are. In Filipino, we call our brothers/sisters "kapatid", which accordingly (not scientific), means being cut from the same umbilical cord connected to the mother.

Anyway, I'm writing this in honor of my only sibling (soon to be dad!), who is celebrating his 29th birthday TODAY!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, KUYA BENAY! We miss you dearly!

Giddy to get my V & M Organic Goodies!

In vain support of my "Green is Beautiful" philosophy, I'm so giddy to get my Venus and Mars Organic goodies. This includes my 5-pc. anti-bacterial make-up brushes (with pouch & soak), Emu Oil soaps in 3 variants, and the Bare-it-All cream. Read: ALL ORGANIC.

And because I'm so impressed with the products and how organic stuff never failed me (and my sensitive, acne-prone skin) before, I also agreed to resell the Venus and Mars products in my own shop, UrbanPosh, soon.
Giddy. Giddy. Giddy.

Back from the Dead: LAX-Bureau-Fiamma

I'm back from the dead! LOL. Been on serious hibernate mode the past months that I avoided party places to the point that my BFF thought I'm a renewed person. Haha. Well, I just like taking my pill (I don't mean drugs, pls.!) in small, not-so-frequent doses. I just enjoy it more that way.
