An inspired Monday

My body is still aching from all the walking I did in Singapore and KL the past five days, but it's something I'm too grateful about, because that equates to energy well spent, and a traveler's blissful heart. I'll talk more about my recent wandering more on my next post. =) This quick one is dedicated to greet you, my blogger friends, a happy & blesses Monday!, and share the positivity that I've been feeling lately...and part of that positivity comes from this Asia-exclusive baby --- JLO Deseo Forever.

"Deseo Forever is described as a sheer and sparkling fruity floral scent:
Inspired by a shower of petals in Jennifer’s rain-kissed garden, Deseo Forever is a sparkling bouquet wrapped in lush femininity. A secret burst of summer peach, fresh freesia petals and orange blossom hidden with the hint of mineral notes and sheer musk."

In all honesty, my first impression on this Deseo flanker is, well, not bad for a celebrity perfume but nothing great either. And so, it just sat on my bedside table for more than a month, if only for the lovely bottle. But I ran out of my usual D&G Light Blue, and the RL Romance is too strong for my fresh morning mood, and so I turned to my Deseo. First spray was too strong, but as hours passed, it developed into something more light, more fresh, and more memorable! I'm highly acidic, and most perfumes smell differently on my skin, and so I don't use many brands but just a few trusted ones. [I have horrible stories of how some perfumes turn rancid on me!!! Argh.] Deseo Forever is a discovery, it really turned into something upon contact to my skin, inexplainable chemistry, I don't care how many Glow JLo has sold, I'm sticking to this. =)

How about you? Any perfume that smells different on you? In a good or bad way? I'd love to hear it. =)

Happy, sweet smelling day to us all! Cheers!
Much Love,
Dang

Let's bag 'em up!

My KL-Sing trip with the Sweets is just 3 days away, and so aside from a looong list of errands I have to finish this weekend, I also anticipate last minute packing. As with all previous trips, I’m also preparing his stuffs, or at least give him a detailed list of what to bring, otherwise, he will end up with a single walking shorts, a few shirts and without a tooth brush – hence the term boys will be boys. LOL.

Of course, my makeup & toiletries are on top priority [yes, we girls will always be girls!], so when I saw these nice makeup bags, I didn’t think twice of getting one for my BFF, and two for myself. =D

Polka dots bag from Swell Stuffs, ATC
Lippie bag from SM Department Store
I've always been a fan of black, and a splash of bright colors (like hot pink, green or orange), adds a little kick and kikay touch to it.

They are nice outside, and even nicer inside! Both have brush holders [which I love!], waterproof lining which is a must for me because I truly hate spills, and a little mirror that comes in handy.

It's nice that this bag is formed and sturdy, so I can put it in my luggage and not worry about crushed makeup.

Not much, but fits the basics.

As many of you may notice, I have full lips, and so I got this to remind me that big is beautiful! LOL.;-)

Best thing about this bag is that it opens up really wide, so 100% access, no digging needed. The brush holders can also double as mascara or tube lipstick holders, as seen in the photo. Smarty.

One of the best thing about girls is that we always find joy in the simplest of things, and thank goodness that more girls walk the earth, making it a little brighter. =)
May your Saturday be a cheerful one! Celebrate being a girl! =)
Much Love,
Dang

Christmas is and will always be my favorite season; bright lights, bazaars, gift givings left and right, reunions and of course, partying. I've been looking forward to my company party for the last 4 years that I've been with them, because it's simply one of the best I've ever seen. From the sumptuous food, great entertainment, and THE biggest raffles. [though I've never won LOL] Unfortunately, I wasn't able to attend last year's (2008), since it was held the same day as my brother's wedding, and so this year (2009), was really something I looked after. I have shared the happy snaps from pose n' print booth HERE, but below are some taken from my camera, with my EOTN, FOTN, OOTN and NOTN. It's a tad too late, but I still felt festive after seeing them. =)

NOTN. I planned to do nail art, but I had very little time, so I ended up with this gold-silvery metallic polish from a random salon.

I didn't really intend to look alien-ish or anything, I just wanted some silver, glitter and class. =)

The Reading Mojo

One best thing I miss about being a student, is that you have a lot of spare time. It's true that you don't actually appreciate it then, since all you think about is to get out of the uni [after XX years of studying!] and start earning big bucks. Back in HS and early college, I have like hundreds of hours that I can use to surf the net, do scrapbooks, chat with my GFs, some dates, see plays and even attend extra classes. And one good thing I like, is that I have all the time in the world to READ. Downside is, as a student, I didn't have much money to spare to buy books. I just borrowed, and so my choices were limited. My mom and dad were not much of readers, my dad used to buy me bikes, roller skates and rubber shoes for my birthday, mom on the other hand, gives me cross stitch set. LOL.

The irony is, now that I'm already capable of buying books of my choice, I don't have much time to read! With my mom abroad, my weekend errand list ballooned. This Saturday, I have to go to the market and cook [I've been living on instants, and BF food], do some grocery, go to the vet, pay the bills, maintain the car and visit my folks. I'm human, I need at least 5 hours of sleep on weekdays, and 8 hours every now and then. By the time I grab my book before bed, I'll be sleepy in less than 10.

For year 2010, I have a few passions in my past that I would like to revisit. Painting, DIY's, scrapbooks, and yes, READING MORE. Reading everyday!

I found myself in Powerbooks, scanning over hundreds of titles, and man, I missed a LOT! And so I'm starting with these and hopefully get back my mojo.

How long would you wait for love? Me? 3 months max. =p
I'm looking for the Sybil movie, 1976 version. If you have a copy, or know where I can get it, PLEASE get in touch with me. I'll greatly appreciate it.

My boss told me that this one is a good "hanep" read. It's a little pricey and heavy, so I guess I can just wait for her to finish hers. =)

I can't wait to get home and start with my first Gabriel Marquez's. How about you? Any good reads lately? I'd love to know so I can check them out, too. Happy reading and learning! =)
Much Love,
Dang

Some Self Lovin'

I would like to believe that I've been very diligent in the latter part of 2009, and I've spent hours and hours of shopping and gift hunting for the special people in my life, that I almost forgot to buy something for myself last Christmas! Thank goodness for online shops and efficient store owners who made it possible for these beauties to arrive just in time for my company party last December 18.

I was tasked to do some of the performers' makeup for the event, and it turned out that my friends also trusted me to do their looks for that glam night, yay. So it's high time for me to find some good makeup and tools that I can use to use and practice over and over without leaving me broke or homeless. LOL. And so I decided to get the 78 pc. ES and Blush palette from Doll Face Cosmetics and the 8 pc. Holiday Charm Travel Brushes from Beauty and Minerals.

So here's my self lovin' treats for Christmas 09'

Combination of matte, satin and shimmer shadows that give me endless possibilities, it feels like my gradeschool days, painting and drawing on my canvass. =) The color pay off is good, but I won't rave about it so much now, I still have to use it more, but the first time isn't bad. For the price of less than a thousand bucks (Php), it's no doubt a GOOD BUY!

I'm not a fan of baby pink, so that's a minus for me. And for brushes, I'll still go for classy elegant colors like black, silver or scarlet. It makes it look pricey, don't you think so?

But when it comes to the quality of the brushes, I'm all for it, hands down! The bristles are fine and very soft, no shedding and bleeding is almost neglectable. My only wish is that they thicken the powder and blush brush a bit more, like 20% more. I like my brushes puffy and real stout.

The first thing I noticed upon receiving my set is that THEY ARE SOOO SMALL! Too small for my hands =.( I took this picture to show you, I can be clumsy at times and the ES brushes slipped my hands a few times already. On the positive side, the set is really handy and travel friendly, so I carry it with me every single day!

Comparing the size and bristle density of my Venus & Mars' and Holidays Charm's powder brushes. V&M still holds my heart. <3

Phone for size reference

The Holiday Charm Brushes @ Php 950.00
Likes: VERY soft, animal friendly, VERY handy, minimal bleeding, and VERY affordable too
Dislikes: A tad too short, and a little more density please!
Overall: This set is a travel essential, if you are always on the go like me, and can't live without at least the basics, then this is a must grab. I'm giving it 8 out of 10. =)

Thank you to Sophie of Beauty & Minerals and Pearl of Doll Face Cosmetics for being professional and very kind. =)

NeuroChiq's 2009 RECAP

I can stay put all day - Palawan 07'

2009 for me, was a year of gains and losses. It was confusing but memorable, scary but exciting. I’ve witnessed how envy, pride and selfishness can suck out every single drop of goodness from a person, and yet I have proven that human beings can learn, can forgive, and can bounce back a better person.

It’s the first working day of 2010, and since I voluntarily spent my entire vacation away from the computer, this is my perfect chance to look back at my OH YAY, OOPPPS and WHAT NOTs of the year past.

BAD MOVIE with a GOOD ENDING – Who says something so so bad, can end real good? ME. In fact, 2008 up to the first 2 quarters of my 2009 was flooded with tears, whining & alcohol. My then ex BF was seeing someone else and was finally happy, my single GFs were single no more and so I’m practically alone, my career was dull and stagnant, and family and independence issues were getting to my nerves. I remember driving around the city for hours, calling every number on my phone and ending up downing vodka alone. It was scary, difficult and I was losing control, which freaked me out even more. If quarter life crisis is a man, I would have killed the bi*ch. But I saw the silver lining towards Q3, with my career picking up, my faith reconstructed, and the brat learned a lesson or two and began seeing things at different angles. The last months of my 2009 were spent healing, loving and appreciating my blessings, and it can only get better.

NEW & OLD LOVEs - 2009 sealed the decade long friendship I have with my best girlfriends. It's so hard to find genuine people nowadays, who will stand for you in the darkest of your days, and I'm so happy & blessed to have found 7 great girls. Love them to bits!
Karen, me, Yhel, Tara, Tethas & Libay...and we are missing Chai (in Australia) and Cath badly.
I also realized, in the most UNROMANTIC way, that I let go of the most wonderful man I have ever met. And when I say UNROMANTIC, I meant sitting on the dental chair, all bloody, while my dentist was doing impacted tooth surgery, and my then Ex, was beside me, stroking my hair, sweaty and restless because he can’t bear to see me in pain. Where else can I get a man like that? Not on Earth. See the rest of the story HERE. =)

2009 was also the start of my BLOGGING life, and while I’ve had a loving relationship with writing for years, blogging took it to a whole new level, with a lot of wonderful blogger friends to boot!

BUSINESS and ADVOCACY. Supporting my advocacy of going green through the use of Organics gave way to the launch of my shop -- HOUSE OF ORGANICS. I make a little money, make a lot of friends and help even a lot more people, and that fulfills me in ways I didn’t imagine.

My most wonderful girlfriends ever supporting House of Organics bazaar in AAV

While I have always been vain and conscious about how I look, I didn’t bother learning MAKEUP techniques not until I got so addicted with beauty blogs such as Nikki’s Ask Me Whats (hello, Niks!), Shen’s Addiction, Jheng’s IamSutil, and a whole bunch of pretty, talented girls, who can make any face a freakin’ masterpiece! I started getting serious and practicing what I read, (makeup school is out of budget!) and though I’m a FAR FAR cry from neither of these makeup gurus, I think I’ll eventually get the hang of it. (fingers crossed*)

CRAZY WANDERLUST
– I did a lot of traveling this year, but I don’t consider it luxurious, nor something I should brag about. Traveling means a lot more to me, it shapes the way I think, and feel towards other people, and each place entails a new story in my life. One day, I’m a kid amazed by the Disney parade, then I’m a teenager who finds comfort with the howling seas. My humble travels are but mini adventures that I would love to look back 30 years from now. I was blessed to have visited the culturally rich town of Bohol, the bustling lights and amazing parks of HK, the breath taking dive sites of Anilao, the magical sands and waters of Boracay, the progressive and OC-ish clean streets of Singapore, the majestic towers of KL, the simplicity of Miri (where I met great friends!) and the surprisingly wonderful city of Kota Kinabalu. I can’t be more grateful for these blessings. I hope to see more of the world in the coming years with the best people in my life.

SHOCKING LOSSES – We have witnessed terrible losses here in the Philippines and worldwide. The death of the King of Pop Michael Jackson, Farah Fawcett, Pinoy Master Rapper Francis Magalona, and other notable personalities in Hollywood and local show business, are but testaments on how temporary human life is, thus, teaching us a lesson or two. And who would forget the ferocious typhoon Ondoy? The sea tragedies just before Christmas and New Year, and the shameless Maguindanao massacre? =,(

SCREEN TREATS – I’m a movie buff, and a TV addict too, in fact, I won’t last a week without watching a movie, be it on DVD or the big screen. Sweets and I religiously watch movies or TV series on Sundays, where we can be as lazy as we want to be. 2009 boasted of some of the biggest screen treats like Transformers 2, Up, G.I. Joe, New Moon, District 9, Star Trek, Avatar etc. It also left millions glued on the boob tube with the likes of The Big Bang Theory, Glee (thanks to my GFs), Gossip Girl, Supernatural, Chuck, How I Met Your Mother etc. Oh how I wish Citi can still extend their REEL DEAL promo…or make it permanent perhaps? Anybody from Citi here? =) 2010 movies look even more promising, and I can't wait to see Iron Man 2 this summer.

Needless to say, my 2009 was nothing but colorful. I had my ups and downs and went through every twist fair and square, I gained some, I lost some, and I’m in for more surprises. 2010 is my silver year, and I’m not running away from getting older, in fact, age and freedom really turns up my heat.

Have a BLESSED & HAPPY life in 2010! My blogging break is ALMOST over, and I hope to make it up to all of you in the coming weeks. Cheers!

Much Love,
The NeuroChiq
