What Happens in Boracay, Stays in Boracay

I promised myself that 2011 will be the year I'll discover more of the Philippines. Though I'm thankful to have set foot on different foreign lands in Asia several times, I can't say I'm well traveled - I'm still lightyears away from that. I missed my flight home from Bangkok last year, and while I'm cramming to book the next available flight (and lost several grand for it), I almost believed it's karma.

Karma for what you say? For thinking I can happily tick my travel checklist without discovering loving my own first. I've been to a few places in the Philippines. Anilao, Liliw, Cebu, Bohol, Mindoro, La Union, Boracay, Pangasinan, Palawan, and some places I don't remember the names, and that's it. Very few compared to more than 7,000 possibilities of finding the best places without needing my passport.

And so, to shake things up, and in an attempt to stop depleting my savings too, I decided 2011 will be a year of discovering the best of the tropics, Philipppines that is.

Let me start with my recent trip to the lovely island of Boracay in the province of Aklan. As a famous celebrity tweeted "No matter how commercialized Boracay is now, it's still one of the best places in the planet."  And of course, my Pinoy travel list wouldn't be complete without it.

So what did I do during my 4-day stay in Boracay?

  • Lounged in the crystal waters of the pool while having drinks and singing my favorite songs
Tonglen Beach Resort, Station 2.

  • Enjoyed scrumptious food and fruit shakes

Why are you so promiscuous? You tempted me!
  • Spend hours and hours watching interesting people

  • Partied with the gang

Summerplace. Station 2.

  • Made love with the camera
The usual suspects: Eissa, May, Cille & me

  • Hunted and found Nemo, and got mobbed by fishes along the way

See the excitement in my eyes? =D
  •  And the last thing to miss in the beach, watched sunset with J

Boracay is not done for me this year, I'll be back in June with my workmates, and I'm suspecting it won't be the usual. I'll be surprised if we ever get to relax! Afterwards, time to move my butt and see the rest of the Philippines. I already booked my Cebu trip, and my Banaue/Benguet, Pinatubo, Corregidor and La Union is in the making. I'm also thinking of having a field trip around the Metro, those little nooks I unbelievably haven't been to. It's time to rediscover. I'm excited.

  2. Commercialized spots can still be great places. There is a reason they became "touristy"!

  3. I don't care what people say, Boracay is still my 2nd province. It's more than the view and the place. It's the people and the experience..
