What I Learned Today: Christmas Edition

As I get older and wiser, I subsequently learned to let go of material things for Christmas. I barely bought anything for myself this year, and instead spent most of my cash on presents for family and friends and some on a trip to visit my folks in the province. I appreciate receiving gifts, especially well-thought of ones, but nothing compares to the feeling of giving and sharing to people I truly value the most. If I had more to give, I'll gladly wrap presents for strangers I meet in the streets. Maybe in a few years I'll be more able.

Giving seriously breaks my bank but fills my spirit, and spending time with Christ, my family, and a few chosen friends leaves me tired and exhausted but in return delights my heart. That to me, is Christmas.

From my family and friends to yours, have a very Merry, Blessed Christmas!

How to Take Care of You Fabulous Coloured Hair

A few hours to go and it's officially Christmas! I love Pinoy celebrations but I wish you the best whichever part of the world you're in. I hope you spend this special season with your family, friends and loved ones!

Anyhoo, time to do some serious blogging while waiting for the clock to strike 12 midnight so I can open my gifts. In the meantime, I would like to share something very close to my heart: Coloured Hair. If you often change your hair color, then it's a must to know how to properly care for your chemically abused hair, too! Coloured hair tend to be more dry, brittle and coarse so be ready to add extra care to your mane.

Here are some tips for red heads, blondes, brunettes and ombres out there.

  • Get a regular trim. Trimming your hair and taking care of the ends will add to overall health of your hair. Healthier hair means longer lasting color. You can trim your hair every six weeks or so.
  • Protect your hair from the sun. Your hair needs protection from harmful UV rays as much as your skin does. Don't stay under the sun for too long or use hair products with sunscreen to keep your hair color from fading away so soon.
  • Use the right type of shampoo. There's a plethora of shampoos made specifically for coloured hair, so find one that fits your need and budget. They contain precious oils and minerals specifically needed by color-treated hair. Other more advanced shampoos also contain anti-fading agents to make your hair color last longer. I personally use Pureology Serious Colour Care Shampoo with anti-fade complex and except for the smell, I'm very happy with it. It makes my hair color alive and vivid, and I get compliments on how shiny my locks  are. You can also try Herbal Essences Colour Me Happy. Smells super yummy but the color care effect is less stellar.

  • Go for hair repair conditioner. Coloured hair is prone to some serious damage, so do your hair a favor and use a repairing conditioner. I personally recommend Dove Intense Repair Conditioner. Of all the local conditioners available, I have to say this is the best. My hair stays strong yet soft  and manageable and the effect stays the whole day! Super clean smelling, too. :)
  • It deserves some TLC. Get hair treatments at least once a month. You don't have to break the bank and spend so much on salons every time. There are a lot of over-the-counter, do-it-yourself hair treatments available in drugstores and groceries. From hot oil creams, to intense repair serums. You can even go for all natural by using 100% pure Virgin Coconut Oil. Apply on damp hair, massage on your scalp for a few minutes, wrap in a towel and shower cap for another 30 minutes and you get yourself an organic hot oil treatment. Trust me, I've been a fan of coconut oil way before VCO became so famous. My cousins and I used to extract coconut milk (manually!) and use it as hot oil when we were teenagers! Highly effective, tipid pa. :) If you have some spare cash, or going somewhere special, then go for professional salon treatments once in a while. Creations by Lourd Ramos in Glorietta 5 is a good place to consider.

Taking care of coloured hair may require a bit more effort from your end. But you have to agree with me that good hair colour can brighten up your aura, can compliment your skin tone and can even give you a fresher, younger look. So the extra work is worth it.

Here's a recent photo of me with my coloured hair while channeling Ginger Spice. Red is really fantastic!

And yup, that's an overly happy photo with my wacky team, with some really shiny hair to boot. :D

Now time to wish you a very Merry Christmas! My prayers and well wishes of love, content and positivity are on your way. Thanks for reading! :D

NEED YOUR HELP PLEASE: Black Widow or Cutie Annie?

Ola! I don't want to bore you with why I've been missing the past weeks. Let's just say the universe made sure that the few weeks before the much awaited company shutdown (hurray to agency people! =D) were unforgettable. The grueling weeks leading to year-end are but bitter sweet preamble to the 11-day break that I will probably spend mostly on my bed, with books and DVDs or staring blankly at the skies.

But before that, I have one major dilemma. What should I wear to our Christmas Party? If you must know, we are a bunch of creative, competitive geeks and fashion freaks. Everyday is a fasyon congress, and so you get the drift how much more we prep for the occasion. As it is, we also refuse to go with usual Christmas Party themes. No offense, but rock, glamour, 70s or 80s era, mardi gras and what have you are off the list. Last year, we partied wild ala Cirque du Soleil. It  was the best Christmas Party ever, and we aim to up the ante. This year, the theme is Dress to Save World. And I doubt that anyone will have the heart to go looking like his/her usual self. It's a party to celebrate an extremely successful and fruitful year. Everybody's tired and stretched to the brim, and so it's time to let loose and party!

And so, I'm all ears to your suggestion/s of what I should wear. I recently dyed my hair very very red so that might help. I have two ideas in mind so please let me know what you think! :)

Should I be the svelte and deadly BLACK WIDOW? (Please don't expect those curves though! :p)

Or should I be the cute, panty-flashing Annie of Shaider???

I have 24 hours to decide. Please leave your comments and help me! :)

PS: If you have something more creative in mind, let me know and I'll be glad to send you a token of appreciation. Game!
